The booking and placement system “Klipp”, used for internships in healthcare, had become outdated and required modernization.

BACKGROUND

The former system “Klipp”, now ““Placeringsportalen”, is a web-based booking and placement system for internships in healthcare. It is used by both educational and healthcare organizations, often in different roles. The system is owned and developed jointly by the Uppsala Region and the Stockholm Region.

After 20 years of development, the system had reached a point where it was no longer possible to patch or build on the old technical platform. A new, modern system needed to be developed from scratch to meet today’s demands for functionality and user-friendliness.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

In recent years, KLIPP had been developed with new features squeezed into an old architecture that was not originally designed to handle these needs. This had made the system cumbersome and inefficient to use. Users often had to click back and forth unnecessarily, which created frustration and increased the risk of mistakes. A new system was required to simplify user flows and optimize the user experience.

THE ASSIGNMENT

The assignment included:
  • Research work and user interviews.
  • Facilitation of workshops and discussions with users.
  • UX/UI design and accessibility according to WCAG.
  • Work agilely in a cross-functional team in close collaboration with users, customers and developers.
Östen joined the project about six months after the start and began his work analyzing the existing, highly complex system from the users’ perspective. Through interviews and workshops, he continuously identified the users’ core needs and challenges.
An important part of the work was to understand and discuss the service from a holistic perspective, to ensure that the new solution was both effective and user-friendly.ig.

CUSTOMER BENEFIT

He then designed the user interface at a pixel-perfect level, created design components and guidelines, and ensured that the system followed WCAG accessibility standards.

The result was a modern and user-friendly system that streamlines the work of managing internships in healthcare and reduces the time and frustration caused by previous solutions.e.
